It's just a simple right or left call. One way is the "read" and the other is the QB Counter... Easy Peasy. You can defeat a scrape exchange by motioning a pitchman for the read, and blocking inside with your backside WR's.

I might also suggest a "log first" mentality in the attack point blocking. Most HS D-linemen are taught to squeeze when they see down blocks, and slide down. This makes them hard to kick, and they congest the hole. Easy to log him from that position though, and I'd honestly rather have the edge than cutting back into all the crap inside, especially with the QB.Coach Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18330703126702835068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6082042657758674976.post-50663203515565290432011-12-28T21:52:08.233-08:002011-12-28T21:52:08.233-08:00WE run the GT (counter) was well. Often times when DE's see the speed sweep motion they tend to fly upfield moreso than get into the hip of a pulling tackle. We also have our QB read the backside DE on our GT as well. At times late in the game when I didn't want our QB to run it b/c of a pull read I would place a TE on the backside of the play which told the QB it was an auto give. We ran Q-GT as stated above also.Rhett Peltiernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6082042657758674976.post-51224151939267987832011-12-21T19:44:48.836-08:002011-12-21T19:44:48.836-08:00we run inverted veer with the backwe run inverted veer with the backAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13830721910180999148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6082042657758674976.post-37176704357098492852011-12-21T16:50:48.545-08:002011-12-21T16:50:48.545-08:00Coach, do you run inverted veer with ACE back comi...Coach, do you run inverted veer with ACE back coming across or jet motion?spreadthefieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15761399996016973231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6082042657758674976.post-15678771744316834682011-12-17T11:49:23.999-08:002011-12-17T11:49:23.999-08:00Our QB was a wildcat type QB also and the counter ...Our QB was a wildcat type QB also and the counter read was very good to us this year. This is such a weapon if you can get your QBs to do this and like you said it just takes reps reps reps...

He had 2 long TD runs off of Pulling the counter when the backside end chased the tackle.

Counter might by my favorite play in football also.

If you get against those bad to the bone defensive ends again next year... you can get in 2 back and run the shovel in behind the guy and just have both the pulling guard and tackle turn up to seal/work to the next level. This play got us some solid yardage at my old school and we were terrible there. This is just another way to keep the DE's guessing.Sethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16484944448225445507noreply@blogger.com
